NMSP: 1 killed in head-on crash near Clines Corners

SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico State Police is investigating a head-on crash on U.S. 285, near Clines Corners, that claimed the life of one person Sunday.

The crash happened near mile marker 259 around 2 p.m. Sunday.

A woman was driving southbound when she tried passing a car in front of her. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling northbound with a car behind them.

Her car and the pickup truck hit head-on. The car behind the truck was also involved.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified her as 66-year-old Leticia Lancaster-Valois of Oklahoma City.

Meanwhile, paramedics took all other passengers and drivers to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Detectives found everyone used their seatbelts properly and that alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash. State Police are still investigating.
