Omnibus tax bill: Efficiency vs. transparency

SANTA FE, N.M. — There are only 13 days left in the 60-day legislative session. Lawmakers are running out of time to get bills to the governor’s desk.

One way to get things done is to combine a number of similar bills into one, called an omnibus bill. This year’s tax bill at the Roundhouse is one – but are such massive pieces of legislation a good idea?

House Democrats introduced the bill Monday, and after passing a committee, it is headed for the House floor. More than 50 bills were considered when putting the tax package together.
