Roswell police believe 10-year-old girl was killed in accidental shooting

ROSWELL, N.M. — Police are investigating a death that they suspect was the result of children playing with a gun in Roswell.

Police responded Sunday around 2 p.m. to a shooting at a residence in the 3000 block of West Eighth Street. They found a 10-year-old girl with gunshot wounds.

Paramedics took her to the hospital where she later died.

Roswell Police Department officials believe the incident was accidental, involving children who were playing with a gun. The incident is still under investigation.

Roswell police said final decisions about possible charges in this case will be made by the District Attorney’s Office.
