RUIDOSO, N.M. — Southeastern New Mexico was pummeled with rain this weekend.

Residents were at the fire station picking up sand bags. The Ruidoso fire chief told KOB 4 they’ve given out over 1,000 bags just over the weekend.

“The local area has done a great job of helping each other out and supporting each other and offering different resources to help you get yourself– to make sure you’re in good spots when the rain does downpour, said Melissa Richardson, Ruidoso resident.

Along with the sand bags, officials have been monitoring the roads carefully. The rain had forced some road closures over the fast few days.

“We do have busy weekends here because of the horse racing so we get a lot of out-of-towners here who are not quite as patient with us as they need to be, but you know, that’s to be expected,” said Joe Kasuboski, the Ruidoso fire chief.
