State Police arrest suspect for assault on Amtrak train near Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico State Police arrested a suspect accused of assaulting another person on an Amtrak train near Albuquerque.

Investigators received a call Monday about an assault between two men on an Amtrak train, reportedly near mile marker 5 on State Road 6.

State Police investigators say they found a 66-year-old man struck a 29-year-old man with “an edged weapon similar to a machete.”

Paramedics took the 29-year-old man to UNM Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, officers arrested the 66-year-old man.

At this time, State Police officials say it’s still unclear why this altercation happened. An investigation is ongoing.
