ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque police are investigating a double home invasion turned homicide.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning in a neighborhood near Carlisle and Comanche.

Police say a man broke into the first home and was confronted by the homeowners. He reportedly tried to steal their car, but eventually ran off and broke into a second home.

Officers say someone in that home shot and killed the suspect.

APD says it’s clear people were home at both locations.

“We do have obviously an increase in violent crime during the warmer months, people are just out, they’re frequenting areas where those crimes occur in much more frequency,” said APD Lt. Ray Del Greco.

APD says no one else was injured during the incident.

Officials say it will be up to the District Attorney’s office to determine if any charges are filed against the person who shot and killed the suspect.
