Video: Police seek man after gun goes off, injuring customer at Duran’s Central Pharmacy

The owner of Duran's says on Sunday it appears a man accidentally dropped his concealed gun in the restaurant area and it went off, injuring another man.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The restaurant at Duran’s Central Pharmacy was closed Monday. The owner of Duran’s says on Sunday it appears a man accidentally dropped his concealed gun in the restaurant area and it went off, injuring another man.

“My staff called me immediately, they did all the right things, said Mona Ghattas, Duran’s owner. “The weapon was concealed. Nobody knew this person had this gun.”

Police are looking for the man pictured below. Surveillance video shows he puts his phone in his pocket and people around him can be seen jumping up. A man wearing a hat behind him reaches for the back of his head, before falling out of his chair.

A woman nearby grabs a child from a high chair right next to him. During the commotion, the man reaches down. Police say he’s picking up an “object.” Ghattas believes the man accidentally dropped his gun.

Ghattas says the customer that was struck was taken to the hospital.

In the surveillance video, the man suspected to have the gun just leaves. He’s wearing an “A**holes Live Forever” sweatshirt and drives away in a pick-up truck.

“It was his weapon that discharged and he left! I think that’s very disappointing,” Ghattas said. “Carrying a gun involves responsibility, and responsibility is sticking around and making sure everybody is safe and OK.”

A police report shows the victim appeared to be shot in the back of the head. Police did not have an update on his condition as of Monday night.

Albuquerque police are asking for help to identify the man who left the scene. If you have information, contact Crime Stoppers at (505) 843-STOP or leave an anonymous tip here.
