World Refugee Day event happening today in Civic Plaza

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A free event will be held Monday in Civic Plaza to honor World Refugee Day.

From 5 to 8 p.m. in the plaza, the event will feature speakers, soccer clinics with New Mexico United, food, vendors, kids’ crafts activities and more, including the screening of the documentary Captains of Za’ atari, will be taking place. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The City of Albuquerque’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs is co-organizing the World Refugee Day event with United Nations Refugee Agency, Lutheran Family Services and New Mexico Somos Unidos Foundation.

Lutheran Family Services’ Lydia Monte and Beatriz Valencia, of the City of Albuquerque’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, joined Joy Wang to discuss more.
