APD: DWI officer injured, 28-year-old charged in overnight crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 28-year-old man was charged with DWI after an early Friday crash that injured an APD DWI officer.

Albuquerque police were called around 2:30 a.m. Friday to a two-vehicle, serious-injury crash at Irving Boulevard Northwest and Eagle Ranch Road. The DWI officer was driving one of the vehicles westbound on Irving while Vaughn Stands, 28, was reportedly driving the other vehicle southbound on Eagle Ranch.

The officer was transported to the hospital with several injuries and broken bones. Stands was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Stands is facing a charge of DWI with great bodily harm and is in the process of being booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.

Albuquerque Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash. Speed is believed to also be a factor in the crash.
