Albuquerque police arrest man for father’s murder

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police charged a man for the murder of his father Tuesday. Abelito Rivera, Jr. has been charged with an open count of murder.

Officers responded to a home near 98th Street and Central Avenue SW Tuesday morning. Police said a neighbor reported Rivera Jr. had pulled his father, who was apparently dead, outside and covered him with dirt. 

APD said Rivera Jr. allegedly killed his father sometime prior to the 911 call. 

Police said officers tried to interview Rivera Jr., who was incoherent. He reportedly stated, “I hurt my dad.”

The Office of Medical Investigator reported to detectives that Rivera Jr. suffered from extensive blunt force trauma.
