New Mexico United starts strong, gets 2-2 draw in LA

LOS ANGELES — New Mexico United took on the LA Galaxy II club Sunday, trying to bounce back after losing to Miami.

United raced to a 2-0 lead in the first half, starting with Romario Williams who broke through to make it 1-0. Then, Christian Nava nabbed a goal to put the game to 2-0.

LA, however, regrouped in the second half and scored twice, ultimately ending the match with a 2-2 draw.

SEASON OUTLOOK

New Mexico United has 10 wins, five losses and nine draws. United is fourth in the USL Championship’s Western Conference standings, with 39 points and a presumptive playoff spot.

Ten matches remain until the playoff field is set. The next match for United is at home against Memphis 901, 7 p.m., August 17.
