ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A new award-winning burger joint gave out free cheeseburgers all day as it opened its doors for business in downtown Albuquerque.

Customers say it’s a win for the downtown food scene.

“They’re in the best food hall Albuquerque has, 505 is the best food hall in my opinion,” said David Kaufman. “It’s just gonna make this place so much better.”

Stackers Burger Owner Basit Gauba says he was caught in a pickle when his flagship Pakistani restaurant Tikka Spice closed.

“Just wanted to bring something different to Albuquerque,” said Gauba.

That’s now a food truck. They moved their Stackers Burger Co. truck to brick and mortar, making it their fourth business in the metro.

“We wanted to be part of that growth in the downtown area,” Gauba said.

They have no beef with being here, they’ve already seen success with their Pakistani influenced chicken tender shop next door — doubling down downtown.

Their green chile cheeseburger piled with two smashburgers, melty cheese, and loads of green chile won the Triple Crown at the Green Chile Cheeseburger Smackdown in 2022.

Gauba says he wants to return that support.

”Oftentimes we’ll go feed the homeless. Once a year during Thanksgiving, we do give back to our local heroes like firefighters, police officers, teachers,” he said.

Smashing into the New Mexico food scene, one smashburger at a time.
