Police release new details on deadly UNM shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Police have identified the UNM student who was involved in a deadly shooting on campus Saturday morning.

According to APD, 19-year-old Brandon Travis was shot and killed by a 21-year-old NMSU student-athlete at around 3 a.m. Saturday.  

During the altercation, both students were shot. The 21-year-old was rushed to a hospital.

State police say Travis had conspired with a 17-year-old female and two other UNM students to lure the 21-year-old to campus and assault him.

Once on campus, Travis confronted the student and shot him. The NMSU student fired back. 

The female and the two other students fled the scene. That female was eventually arrested for aggravated battery.
